IdeasCity, New Museum
IdeasCity is the New Museum’s collaborative, civic, and creative platform that explores art and culture beyond the walls of the museum. This international initiative provides a forum for artists, technologists, designers, and policymakers to exchange ideas, identify challenges, propose solutions, and engage the public’s participation. Speakers, collaborators, and partners include John Akomfrah, Alexandra Bell, Tania Bruguera, Simone Browne, David Byrne, BUFU, Mel Chin, Clocktower, Cooper Union, Teddy Cruz, Drawing Center, e-flux, Theaster Gates, Ghetto Gastro, Bouchra Khalili, Rick Lowe, Sylvia McAdam Saysewahum, Trevor Paglen, Rhizome, Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts, Hito Steyerl, Nick Srnicek, Superflex, Van Alen, Ben Vickers, Kamau Ware, Amanda Williams, and more.
Recent projects for IdeasCity include: ‘The Future of Work’ an exhibition examining progressive craftsmanship and post-global labor in Shanghai— ‘100 Actions for the City’ a public conference, exhibition, and workshop series in New York featuring Tatiana Bilbao, David Byrne, Mel Chin, Superflex, and Trevor Paglen— ‘The Future of the Countryside’ a residency and public program in Arles, France collaborating with Kunlé Adeyemi, Bouchra Khalili, Rem Koolhaas, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, and Amanda Williams— ‘Ideascity Athens’ with John Akomfrah, Tania Bruguera, Nick Srnicek, and Hito Steyerl on art, capital, and the production of space — and ‘IdeasCity Detroit’; a residency on civic equity featuring Theaster Gates, Walter Hood, and the City of Detroit.
